Luksic Visiting Scholars Program

Nominations for academic year 2025-26 are due on January 31, 2025

With the generous sponsorship of the Luksic Scholars Foundation, Stanford’s Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) first launched the Luksic Visiting Scholars (LVS) Program in 2021. The Luksic Visiting Scholarship is available to Chilean nationals and residents who are affiliated with a Chilean academic institution. Independent scholars and professionals may also apply.

With support coordinated by the Luksic Scholars Foundation, Stanfordʼs Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) launches the application for the Luksic Visiting Scholars Program for the Academic Year 2025-26.

Appointees receive a round trip economy class airfare, housing subsidy, and a stipend. CLAS provides appointees with shared office space and library privileges.

Appointees are expected to participate in the academic life of CLAS and attend public lectures and events organized by the Center.

If interested, we will be hosting an information session on December 3rd at 12:00 PM.

Eligibility

Preference is given to Chilean nationals or residents working at Chilean institutions. However, academics working abroad (outside Chile) at Chilean institutions are eligible to apply. Junior and senior Chilean academics who wish to spend a quarter at Stanford working on their own research and writing projects are eligible to apply.

Female scholars and members of traditionally underrepresented groups from regional institutions in Chile are especially encouraged to apply.

Duration

Applicants of the Luksic Visiting Scholars Program must propose how they will engage in research at Stanford University during one quarter while benefiting from collaborative opportunities and resources at Stanford University. Luksic Visiting Scholars may self-fund and arrange with their Stanford faculty sponsor to extend their visitorship by an additional quarter, if desired.

Selection

The selection process is competitive on the basis of academic qualifications, the quality of research plans, and the relevance of both to the Center's mission, academic objectives, and priorities.

Applications that provide information on how their research experience at Stanford can benefit their institution’s or Chile’s development will be prioritized.
