CLAS Lecture Series: "Human Dimensions of Conservation in Galapagos: How Natural & Social Sciences are Better Together"

It is increasingly evident that the conservation of nature -biodiversity and ecosystem services- cannot be effectively addressed using uni-disciplinary approaches. Instead, a multi-disciplinary perspective is needed, particularly by bringing together the natural and social sciences. This lecture illustrates how natural and social sciences can more effectively address the challenge of conservation, using an example from one of the most iconic places of nature conservation in Latin America and the world: The Galapagos Islands.

Speaker: William H. Durham, Bing Professor in Human Biology and Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment
