Emily Fjaellen Thompson earned her Ph.D. in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research works at the intersection of visual anthropology, memory studies, and critical archival practices in post-conflict Perú. Through participatory, multi-modal ethnographic fieldwork, she investigates how occult archives and hidden photographs reveal alternative forms of historical testimony, considering visual materials as sites of resistance, survival, and ongoing negotiations of traumatic pasts.
