Fabián Carchi was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Columbia University, where he studied Economics and Latin American and Iberian Cultures. His award-winning thesis explored the intricate interplay between capital markets, fiat money, and Diego Rivera’s art as a literary and economic construct within Mexico, and Latin America at large.
Beyond academia, Fabián's professional experience includes roles at prestigious institutions such as the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, and the City University of New York. Currently, he serves as a Researcher for the LatAm region at Preqin, where he specializes in alternative assets, contributes to industry articles, and fosters key client relationships throughout Latin America.
At Stanford, Fabián aims to deepen his knowledge in economic development and political economy, while also advancing his proficiency in Portuguese. His research interests lie at the intersection of social justice and economic development. He is particularly focused on how policies can be crafted to promote the fair distribution of resources and opportunities across diverse social groups, as well as the role of private capital in economic inequality. Additionally, he is interested in monetary policy, corruption, institutional transparency, and globalization.
In his leisure time, Fabián enjoys traveling with his spouse and friends, hiking, reading fiction novels, and binge-watching TV shows.
