Carolina Parra

Luksic Visiting Scholar

Carolina Parra received her PhD in Applied Physics from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María USM (2009), Chile and held a postdoctoral position at Stanford University, US (2013). Currently she is head of the interdisciplinary Laboratory of Nanobiomaterials within the Physics Department at USM ( ) and is an associated researcher at the Technological Scientific Center of Valparaíso. Dr. Parra has many years as principal investigator of several government grants related to nanoscience and nanotechnology in the search for an active and permanent linkage to the industry to find sustainable solutions for the mining, aquaculture and manufacturing sectors. Dr. Parra has been awarded the National Prize of Innovation Avonni 2021, the Women in Science UNESCO-L’Oreal Award 2007, Outstanding Teacher 2017 and 2018 (USM) and Santander prize for young researchers 2013.
