Nabuco Brazilian Studies Visiting Scholars and Fellows Program

Application opens on October 1, 2025. Applications for Academic Year 2026-27 are due by February 3, 2026.

With the generous sponsorship of the Safra National Bank of New York and the support of the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C., Stanford’s Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) has been able to bring a series of both junior and senior Brazilian scholars to campus for short terms to lecture, teach, and do research at Stanford. Nabuco Visiting Scholars and Fellows are selected through a competitive process on the basis of academic qualifications, the quality of research plans, and the relevance of both to the Center's mission and objectives. Appointees receive a round trip economy class airfare, housing subsidy, and a stipend. Office facilities at CLAS are available as space allows.

Eligibility

The Nabuco Visiting Scholars and Fellows Program is intended primarily for individuals currently teaching in or affiliated with an academic institution in Brazil, but independent scholars may apply. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including women scholars and members of traditionally underrepresented groups.

Duration

Applicants of the Nabuco Visiting Scholars and Fellows Program may propose to lecture, teach a one-unit course, or co-teach a course with a Stanford faculty while engaging in research at Stanford University during one month. We want the Nabuco Scholar to enrich the school's teaching and research on Brazil while benefiting from collaborative opportunities and resources at Stanford University.
