Stanford-Tinker Faculty Research Fund

CLAS solicits requests for funding

Deadline:  May 15, 2024

CLAS is seeking to fund initiatives that allow Stanford faculty to enhance their scholarship and student engagement - to continue contributing to the generation of knowledge and learning about Latin America. We seek to support projects in the social sciences and the arts and humanities. Projects in the natural sciences with focus on climate crisis and public health are also eligible. We will give priority to funding projects that involve a radical re-examination of the way in which social, cultural, political and economic arrangements have reinforced inequality and exclusion. We also seek proposals engaging with movements for indigenous recognition and autonomy and linguistic empowerment.

Allowable expenses may include but are not limited to: student assistantships, publication support, software, datasets, survey collection, and when COVID-19 allow it, travel and field research.

The Stanford-Tinker Faculty Research Fund (STFR) will provide support for new initiatives that may bring forth new approaches and visions regarding Latin America. STFR awards range from $25,000 to $50,000 for one academic year period.  The award may be renewable in a yearly basis for up to two additional years, depending on funding availability. CLAS does not provide administrative support. Applications may include a stipend for a graduate student to assist with the fund administration.

Request process

Applicants must be Stanford faculty members. Please submit a request for funding (no more than 10 single spaced pages or around 5000 words. It may include supporting materials in an appendix)

Reporting

Awardees are asked to submit a brief narrative report to be used for stewardship purposes,  elaborating on the impact of the STRF on the project.
