CLAS Graduate Conference Travel Grant
The Center for Latin American Studies invites proposals for Stanford graduate students to attend and present on topics related to Latin America at academic conferences. CLAS will distribute travel grants of up to $500 for approved proposals.
Please note that funding will not be provided for non-travel related expenses. Also, as per Stanford policy, funds cannot be used for lodging if the conference takes place within 50 miles from campus.
Application Requirements
- Cover sheet (must include name, SUNet ID, student ID Number, email, home department, conference name, conference location, dates of travel, and amount requested)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
- Brief proposal narrative including your presentation title and abstract, and how attending the conference would inform your research interests and/or academic career (500 word maximum)
- Complete itemized budget (i.e. airfare, lodging, local transportation)
- Graduate transcript (unofficial or official)
- Letter of acceptance to conference.
- NOTE: If your conference acceptance is still pending at the time of your application submission, then include a copy of your conference proposal submission, or any type of documentation demonstrating that you have submitted a proposal to present. If selected for an award, a copy of the letter of acceptance will be required before funds are disbursed.
- Letter of recommendation from your advisor
- Proof of home department eligibility confirmation (a letter or email screenshot that includes administrative confirmation of your financial eligibility for this grant)
Deadlines
Applications for:
Autumn or winter conferences are due by 11:59 PM PT on November 17, 2025.
- Spring conferences are due by 11:59 PM PT on February 9, 2026.
- Summer conferences are due by 11:59 PM PT on April 13, 2026.
Reporting
Awardees are expected to:
- Submit a one-page report of the research conducted ready to be posted on our website AND a complete budget report within 30 days after the completion of their travel.
- Potentially present their research at CLAS after they have conducted their fieldwork.
