Join us for a discussion about Professor Fatoumata Seck’s recently published article about Haiti’s first woman anthropologist, Suzanne Comhaire-Sylvain. We will explore Comhaire-Sylvain’s pioneering work and travels throughout Africa and Latin America, her impact across multiple fields of study, and how contemporary scholars are uncovering new insights from her collection held at Stanford University Libraries.
Fatoumata Seck is assistant professor of French at Stanford University. Before coming to Stanford, Seck was assistant professor at the City University of New York. She specializes in literatures and cultures of Africa and the Caribbean. Her research and teaching cut across various disciplinary and linguistic traditions with an emphasis on history, popular culture, and politics in the French-speaking world. She received a PhD in French with an Anthropology minor and a certificate in African Studies from Stanford University.
