Embroidering Landscapes of Affect: Photo Embroidery Workshop
582 Alvarado Row, Stanford, CA 94305
Seminar Room
Slow down and see "home" in a new light.
Transform a photograph of a place you call home through the art of embroidery. In this workshop, you will learn basic stitches to highlight the physical and emotional layers of a place important to you.
This workshop emerges through Lucía Huerta's questions of what it means to grow up in and inhabit spaces affected by complex social and environmental issues. Through the practice of photo embroidery, we are invited to pause and look deeply at everything that constitutes a space—lines, shadows, colors, objects, etc. By using thread and needle to intervene in a photograph, we can highlight what is important to us, showcasing our own memories and hopes for that place.
This workshop invites you to make these deep observations of the spaces you call home, generating conversations around our experiences and perceptions.
Beginner-friendly: No embroidery experience required.
Materials will be provided. In advance of the workshop, please send the photograph you want to embroider to have it printed on photo paper.
