On August 15, 2007 a 7.9 Richter-scale earthquake hit Peru, followed by dozens of aftershocks, that razed areas just south of Lima. Pisco, a town on the southern coast, lost 70% of its infrastructure. Hundreds died and thousands were left without food or shelter. Violence and looting ensued, and the Garcia government was blamed for delayed and ineffective responses. Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Tyler Bridges, will discuss his eyewitness accounts of events following the earthquake.
