The Afterlives of Vallejo's Trilce: Translating and Glossing as Temporal-spatial Interventions in the Now

Guest speakers will discuss translating Trilce and how writing glosses has brought a sense of the ways in which Trilce might be understood to intervene in the temporal and spatial composition of the current epoch. The translators will comment on how the insights that arose in the process of collaboration have contributed to this understanding.
William Rowe is Emeritus Professor of Poetics at Birkbeck College University of London, a Fellow of the British Academy and Doctor Honoris Causa (Pontificia Universidad Católica, Peru). Helen Dimos is the author of the poetry collections No Realtor Was Compensated for this Sale (The Elephants, 2017, USA), Intermissions & Things (Veer, autumn 2026, London), and the forthcoming SETS. She has read her work in the USA, Greece, UK, Kenya, Mexico, Chile, and Holland. She is also the co-author and co-translator, alongside William Rowe, of César Vallejo's Trilce with glosses (first edition Veer Books and Crater Press London, 2022; second edition NYRB, 2025, USA). She has been living in Athens, Greece since 2013, coordinating self-organized gatherings of in-person communication around poetry and the political such as translation symposia, reading series, workshops, radio shows, and performances.
